The RAISE Journey

From processable data, to FAIR-by-design, to connected research objects.

The RAISE journey brings together three interconnected European research projects — RAISE Science, RAISE Suite and RAISE Connect — each addressing a different challenge in Open Science.

Together, they represent a continuous evolution in the way research data and digital objects are created, processed, shared, discovered and reused.

RAISE Science: From open data to data open for processing

RAISE Science focused on moving beyond simply making research data open.

Its ambition was to make data open for processing, supporting distributed and crowdsourced data processing while applying FAIR principles.

The project developed a cloud-based environment for data sourcing, sharing and processing, alongside synthetic data generation capabilities.

OPEN → PROCESSABLE

The question: How can we make open research data easier to process and exploit?

RAISE Suite: FAIR from the start

Building on RAISE Science, RAISE Suite extends the approach to the full research data lifecycle.

Researchers often face significant barriers when collecting, preparing and sharing data, including time, effort, skills, data protection and recognition.

RAISE Suite aims to reduce these barriers through a FAIR-by-design approach, automating the journey from data collection to dataset generation, sharing, processing and reuse.

A key element is the use of machine-actionable Data Management Plans, which help guide processes across the research data lifecycle.

COLLECTION → FAIR-BY-DESIGN → REUSE

The question: How can research data become FAIR from the moment it is collected?

RAISE Connect: Bridging the research data divide

The next challenge goes beyond datasets.

Research outputs — including data, code, experiments and results — remain fragmented across different repositories and data spaces, limiting their discoverability and interoperability.

RAISE Connect addresses this challenge through AI-powered, domain-agnostic connectors that transform and connect digital objects as interoperable FAIR Digital Objects.

The aim is to enable researchers to more easily discover, access, integrate and process research objects across different environments.

FRAGMENTED → CONNECTED → INTEROPERABLE

The question: How can distributed research objects work together across the Open Science ecosystem?

One evolving RAISE vision

The three projects address different parts of the same journey:

Together, the RAISE projects share one ambition: to reduce barriers to Open Science and make research outputs easier to discover, process, share, connect and reuse.

Three projects. One evolving vision for Open Science.
